EMILIA INTERNATIONAL PRESCHOOL

CURRICULUM PATHWAY
NURSERY TO RECEPTION: 2-6 years old
In the early years at Emilia Wolsey, we follow the Development Matters guidance from the UK. It is comprised of 7 areas of learning and development :
Personal, Social and
Emotional Development
Communication and Language
Physical Development
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
Each of these areas of learning is important and interrelated to develop and create a happy child as a whole.
As young children are active learners, our emphasis is learning through play which again is guided by the thematic-based learning model of the International Preschool Curriculum (IPC). We aim to develop a love of learning in our students and our provision encourages decision making, problem-solving, collaboration, and independence. The children engage in daily adult-led lessons and activities but we balance this with child-initiated learning which is a valuable tool, providing opportunities for the children to take charge of their own learning and follow their interests. They may select their own resources, plan and develop their play with teachers to support and extend upon this. The aim is to make sure that our children are eager and enthusiastic about learning.
Our day is also organized to ensure that ample time is given to embed the core skills of English, Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia, and Maths. Specialist teaching is offered for the arts, dance & movements, music, and languages. In addition to this, our extensive co-curricular program completes our approach to developing the whole child.
Mandarin, English and BM lessons are compulsory for all the Nursery and Reception children. All age 6 students can opt into the Intensive Mandarin Programme should they eventually choose to progress to a Chinese School system for primary. Ongoing liaison with the Chinese School syllabus, our students can be ensured that the transition will be a smooth and seamless movement.
